Assignment 1 - Stripping Down

The item chosen to abstract is a yellow Kanken bag, and I used Adobe Photoshop to adstract it.

Stage 1
I extracted out all the details of the Kanken bag and drew the bag out on Photoshop, so as to retain the organic look of the bag. I also used yellow to colour the bag, and used its shades to display the shades/shadows on the bag. This gives a realistic illustration of the bag, making it easy to recognise that it is a yelloww kanken bag, like the one in the picture at Stage 0. I intentionally left the logo of the kanken bag white as I wanted to draw the attention of the viewer to the logo, and highlight that it is a Kanken bag

Stage 2
To abstract it further, I chose to draw the bag in a 2D form, and drew the bag in a rectangle shape with rounded edges, as a Kanken bag is rectangular in shape. I did not colour it yellow, as I wanted to remove the details of the differing shades of the bag. However, I retained all the details of the bag, such as the zig-zag crosses on the handle

Stage 3
I decided to remove the simplifying details of the bag, by changing the dashed lines into solid lines, and removing the name of the logo. Instead, I kept the fox logo, which is sufficient in showing that it is a Kanken bag.

Stage 4
I further simplified the picture by removing the intricate details of the bag, to show the basic elements of the bag which is the bag, front pocket, handle and the logo.

Stage 5

I wanted the abstracted Kanken bag to still be recognisable that it is a Kanken bag, and thus I did not remove the logo. Instead, I removed the small circles in the zips of the bag, so as it is still recognisable that it is a zip without the circle. Also, the clasp on the handle was removed as it is not an important detail in showing that it is a bag.
